Hitting Rock Bottom
Hitting Rock Bottom is one of the main outcomes from my major project. The intention was to re-visualise Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in a different form. Using the metaphor of a sinking boat hitting the rocks below. To portray the message of a person at their lowest point when battling the mental illness. The sails of the boat are shredded from the journy the boat has taken, also suggesting how traumatic and damaging OCD can be. This was done using type in the form of stories and personal experiences of the mental illness. The boat itself is left balancing on the rock spire to again portray how fragile a sufferer is, where the next episode can knock them further towards the bottom. The rocks themselves were done using simple geometric shapes with the darkest emotions associated with the illness placed on the sea bed. The sculpture itself was made using white paper.
